Due to an expanding workload across all sectors, they are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Senior/Principal Structural Engineer to join the team in Belfast. You will work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects.

Overview of Role:

Due an expanding workload across all sectors our client is looking for a Senior/Principal Structural Engineer to join and lead the structural team to work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects.

They are a truly diverse team of individuals delivering projects throughout the UK and Ireland for numerous Clients. Their projects range from new developments in the Built Environment to providing specialist engineering services.

You’ll help our client deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you’ll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, they will give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

You will have exceptional leadership qualities and be capable of managing, supervising, coaching and mentoring junior members of the structural design team. It is therefore essential that they have someone who is an excellent communicator, both orally and written, and can command the respect of clients and staff.

Collaboration is at the very heart of our clients’ business and as a Team Leader you must have outstanding skills in this area. Much of their work is to strict deadlines ensuring that deliverables are issued in a timely fashion. You will be expected to plan and manage complex workloads to programme.

The role will involve you actively seeking new business opportunities drawing on your wide-range of client relationships and contacts. You will be expected to grow this client base. The role will also involve taking an active part in winning work and preparing compelling proposals.

What you will be doing:

Assisting in the preparation of structural schemes or specific elements of major improvements, which includes:

• Undertake structural design in a variety of materials including steelwork, concrete, masonry and timber.
• Contribute to technical feasibility studies and production of related reports.
• Carry out preliminary designs.
• Acting as a Lead Structural Engineer as part of Multidiscipline Design Team.
• Provide technical leadership to other members of the Structural Engineering team.
• Manage inputs to deliver projects to budget and schedule to meet the project requirements.
• Lead in design reviews and verification checks.
• Undertake site visits, surveys and report writing.
• Liaise with clients, architects, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Commitment to continued professional development, and the development of new skills beyond the core functions.
• Actively contribute to developing new business and company growth through your network of contacts.

Key Attributes & Experience

• Applicants must have a degree in a related discipline such as Structural or Civil Engineering.
• 10 years’ experience in a similar Structural Design role.
• Demonstrable buildings focused structural engineering design.
• Possess a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• An understanding of CAD (Bentley, AutoCAD, Revit) is desirable.
• Experience in use of structural design software.
• Excellent communication skills and have the ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively.
• Approaching Chartership or have Chartered status.
• Be able to work effectively under pressure, to deadlines and as part of a team.
