Role Introduction and Overview:

An opportunity has arisen for a Resident Engineer to join a major road infrastructure project on the R498 Latteragh Realignment Scheme near Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. This role is suited to an engineer with experience overseeing site delivery, quality, compliance and contractor performance on transport, highways, roads or broader civil engineering schemes.

The scheme includes the construction of approximately 4.3km of regional road realignment to a Type 2 single carriageway, together with active travel infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, pavements, utilities ducting, environmental mitigation and bridge-related elements.

Experience supporting the preparation of claims assessments under the Public Works Contract (PW-CF3) would be advantageous, though it is not essential. Previous roads experience is highly desirable, but candidates from related infrastructure backgrounds will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the Resident Engineer on site for the delivery of the R498 Latteragh Realignment Scheme.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure works are completed in line with design, specification, programme and relevant standards.
• Oversee site-based quality assurance and compliance across roadworks, drainage, earthworks, pavements and associated civil engineering elements.
• Liaise with the contractor, design team and other project stakeholders to support effective project delivery.
• Inspect works on site and maintain accurate records of progress, inspections and site activities.
• Review construction methods and ensure works are carried out in accordance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Support the administration of the contract and provide technical oversight throughout the construction phase.
• Assist with the assessment of contractor submissions, progress documentation and site-related correspondence.
• Contribute to the review of claims-related information where required, particularly under PW-CF3, where applicable.
• Provide oversight on structures and associated infrastructure elements, including overbridges, underpasses, side roads, accesses and utility-related works.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Previous experience in a Resident Engineer role, or a similar site supervision position on civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of road construction, transport infrastructure or comparable heavy civil works.
• Experience overseeing contractors and ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications and quality standards.
• Good knowledge of construction stage inspection, reporting and contract administration processes.
• Roads project experience is preferred, though candidates with transferable experience from other infrastructure sectors will be considered.
• Familiarity with Public Works Contracts, particularly PW-CF3, would be beneficial, but is not essential.
• Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Ability to manage site documentation, inspections and technical reporting effectively.
• Full driving licence or ability to travel to site as required.
